WEEKNDAY MORNING LTC COURSE
1.) HOW LONG IS THE CLASS?
The LTC Class is four hours, plus the shooting test.
2.) HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost of the class is $79.95. You will be given a free range pass ($16.00 Value) and 5% off any gun purchased within 7 days. The fee to the state is $140.00. We recommend you apply online which you can do before or after taking the class (www.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl).
3.) WHERE DO I GO?
4401 Spring Cypress, Spring TX 77388. Arrive at the class about ten minutes before posted class times. We will do the class in the first floor classroom of the two-story building west of the store. Enter the double doors in front.
4.) WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You need 50 rounds, a Texas Driver’s License and eye & ear protection. You can buy the ammo and rent the weapon, eyes & ears at the store or bring your own. Only brass cased ammo may be shot at the range.
5.) WHAT ABOUT SHOOTING TEST?
The shooting test is 20 rounds at 3 yards, 20 rounds at 7 yards and 10 rounds at 15 yards. The target is a B-27. Hits in the 8, 9 or 10 ring (about the size of a man’s vitals) counts 5 points. The 7 ring, 4 points. Any other hits on torso, 3 points. You must score 175 to pass. The shooting is done in 4 to 6 shot strings. It is timed but the time limits are generous enough that most people do not have to rush.
6.) HOW MUCH SKILL IS REQUIRED?
This is a shooting test, not a basic pistol class. You must be able to load and operate your firearm with some degree of skill. If not, we recommend a one hour basic pistol class.
The shooting test is not difficult, but you must be able to load your gun, hold the gun safely and use your sights.
This is a test, not a basic pistol course.
****If you are a novice, we recommend a one hour basic pistol course, the shooting portion of which can be used as your CHL shooting qualification. Upon request, you can pre-qualify during this course so that you wont have to take the shooting test during the actual LTC course. You must request that a LTC Instructor administer the basic pistol class to pre-qualify for the shooting portion of the test for the LTC class.
The entire LTC class and shooting test takes about five hours.
7.) WHAT ABOUT WRITTEN TEST?
The written test is twenty five multiple choice or true/false questions. The material is well covered and we seldom have to retest a candidate.
8.) DO I NEED PICTURES & FINGERPRINTS?
You can go online to find a location and schedule an appointment to get your fingerprints at www.morphotrustusa.com. The cost is $10.00, it takes five minutes and there are several locations on the north side and Conroe. Your TX Driver’s License picture will be used for pictures.
9.) DO I QUALIFY FOR LTC?
We do not issue a LTC. We certify to the DPS that you have taken the class and passed the testing.
We cannot give a legal opinion as to qualifications and by the following comments make no representation that anyone will or will not qualify for a LTC. All questions as to eligibility must be addressed to the DPS. A few traffic tickets are okay. A felony anytime or a Class A misdemeanor within five years or a history of addiction will be a problem. A charge of domestic violence even if it doesn’t result in a felony or Class A misdemeanor will be a problem.
10.) HOW LONG BEFORE I RECEIVE MY LTC?
Again, no guarantees but usually about 30-60 days after application is complete.
11.) CAN I SHARE A WEAPON?
The entire class may shoot at one time so each candidate should bring or rent a weapon.
