What do I need to bring?

Eye and Ear Protection, a handgun and fifty (50) Brass cased Rounds. Handgun Rentals and Ammo are available at the store.  You must have a valid driver license or identification card. However, you do not have to have a Texas Drivers License or be a resident of Texas.

How long is the course?

The course is four (4) hours, plus the shooting portion of the test. The course is about five (5) hours total.

How hard is the written test?

If you pay attention during the class you should have no trouble passing.

How hard is the shooting portion of the course?

The shooting portion of the course consists of 20 rounds at three (3) yards, 20 rounds at seven (7) yards and 10 rounds at fifteen (15) yards. It is a fairly easy test, but you must be able to load, operate and fire a firearm with some proficiency. This is a course on gun laws and a shooting test, not a basic pistol class. We offer basic pistol instruction at our “Learn to Shoot” classes.

What is the cost of the course?

The fee paid to Spring Guns & Ammo is $95.00, which includes the range fee for the shooting portion of the course. Upon completion, you will be given a Free Range Pass ($17.00 value) and 5% off of a firearm, if purchased within five (5) days.
The fee paid to the State is $40.00 (the State fee is half-price for seniors & veterans), which is good for about five (5) years. You must also complete finger printing at a cost of typically $10.00.

Will I have to complete a renewal course?

Renewals are now completed online and don’t require a course.

Do I qualify to obtain my LTC (License to Carry)?

Spring Guns & Ammo does not perform a background check or issue the License to Carry. Spring Guns & Ammo certifies to the State that you have completed the proper training required to obtain your License to Carry.
The State will not discuss an application with Spring Guns & Ammo or its personnel. Questions regarding an application should be directed to the Department of Public Safety.
A felony, ever, or a class A or B misdemeanor, history of chemical dependency or domestic violence occurring within the last five (5) years will disqualify you as a candidate.

Does the course cover both open carry and concealed carry?

Yes, upon completion of the course you will have obtained a License to Carry, which includes both open and concealed carry, subject to limitations to be discussed in class.

Class info: Class will be approximately 2 hours. All training held at SGA’s OUTDOOR RANGE – MAGNOLIA, TX.
Training will instruct students how to draw from the holster and use live fire training exercises to advance shooters skills utilizing paper and steel targets.

Skills Covered:

• Hour 1 training for drawing from the holster – Open Carry (OWB Holster)
• Hour 1 Drawing from holster Live fire exercises Open Carry (OWB Holster)
• Hour 2 training for drawing from the holster – Concealed Carry (OWB or IWB Holster)
• Hour 2 Drawing from holster Live fire exercises Concealed Carry (OWB or IWB Holster)

Equipment Requirements:

• ALL SHOOTERS MUST START WITH AN OWB HOLSTER IN HOUR 1.
• Concealed carry pistol (Full, compact or subcompact)
• Magazine pouch (2 mags)
• Open/Concealed carry holster (Bring both holsters if you have both)
• (outside the waistband OWB) • (inside the waistband (IWB)
• 125 to 175 rds. Ammo
• Shirt/Jacket to cover pistol when it is in OWB/IWB holster – Concealed Carry
• Eye and Hearing protection

Description of Training

During the first hour Students will learn how to draw from an open carry, OWB holster and be able to put fast and accurate rounds on a target from 2 yard to 10 yards. Immediate action and Emergency reload drills may/will be incorporated into the training cycle. During the second hour students will learn to draw from a concealed carry holster position from either and OWB holster or an IWB holster. Clearing the cover garment will be crucial to completing this phase of training. Immediate action and Emergency reload drills may/will be incorporated into the training cycle.

A variety of paper and steel targets will be utilized in order to speed up the learning process and test shooter skills.

Advanced Defensive AR

Skill Level: Moderate to Experienced

Cost: $95

Class Info:

• Training will be two hours.

Goal:

• The Defensive AR course is designed to help students practice using a AR-15 style rifle or similar carbine in simulated defensive scenarios.
• Students will engage multiple targets, engage targets while moving, and perform multiple reloads.
• Students will also learn immediate action to clear any malfunctions during the course. The first couple of the drills for the course are at the firing line.
• After this, the remaining portion of the class is performed beyond the firing line. For safety purposes, the student’s AR-15s will be moved to a table and given to the student before each exercise.

Events Calendar

Equipment Needed:

• Eye and ear protection
• Ar-15 or similar style carbine rifle
• Ammunition – 100 rounds (no steel cased or armor piercing ammunition. This includes green tip ammo)
• Sights – iron, red dot, or optic acceptable
• 2 magazines
• Students must have a way to secure their 2nd magazine to their person (a magazine holder is recommended but not required)
• Rifle slings are optional

• Pre-registration is required.

The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided. The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors.

Skill Level

Students MUST have taken SGA’s Crosby Defensive Pistol 1 class, or receive Instructor Approval to attend the class.

Class Info

Class will be approximately 2 hours. All training will be held at SGA’s Crosby Tx., location.

Training will instruct students in the necessary skills to effectively draw from an outside the Waistband (OWB) holster utilizing DRY/LIVE fire training exercises to perfect these skills.

Skills Covered and Description of Training

Hour 1 will re-introduce the student to the proper Stance, Grip, Sight Management, Trigger Control, Recoil Management and Follow-through needed for Self Defense Shooting. Shooters will learn the proper hand placement and movement to maximize the fastest/safest draw-stroke and first shot placement. Students will begin with empty/safe pistols and progress to live fire drills at the instructor’s discretion.

Hour 2 will consist of various shooting exercises to further familiarize the student with the skills needed for a proper draw and first shot placement. Students will address targets from 1 up to 15 yards as the instructor sees the class progress. Immediate action drills and Emergency Reload Drills may be incorporated into the training. Students should bring 100-150 rounds of ammunition.

Note: SGA Crosby has ammo available for purchase for the class.

Equipment Requirements

• Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holster
• Pistol (that fits holster)
• Magazine Pouch/Carrier (2 – Spare Magazines)
• Eye and Ear Protection/Hat
• 100-150 rounds of Ammunition
• Shirt/Jacket to cover pistol when worn (Instructor may have students utilize a cover garment if the class has progressed to that point in their training.
